Donate Furniture Berks County, PA

Ready for a new sofa, dining room set, or bedroom suite of furniture and wondering what to do with the older pieces? Donate furniture to OppShop, the retail thrift store operated by Opportunity House, a homeless shelter for Berks County, PA.

Let’s review what to consider when planning to donate second-hand furniture.

Evaluate the Furniture Condition

Donate Furniture Berks County PAOpportunity House can’t accept all furniture pieces. The furniture that we take in shouldn’t be broken, dirty, torn, stinky, or stained, or it will take away resources from the shelter’s work.

Choose the Furniture Destination

When you decide where to send the furniture, keep the good you can do at the forefront of your considerations. Opportunity House operates OppShop, our retail thrift store location, to support the shelter’s work. We resell a wide range of gently used products and make donations as convenient as possible.

Prepare the Furniture Donation

Before dropping off or calling for collection of your furniture, prepare it for donation. Extend the generosity of your gift by wiping down the pieces, vacuuming any upholstery, and checking the nooks and crannies for loose change and lost children’s toys. We can’t accept items that we can’t sell.

Arrange the Furniture Donation

OppShop donations are convenient. For furniture pieces, we offer pickup since they’re large and bulky; make these arrangements via phone at (484) 957-3861 or online at this link.

We also accept donations behind the physical location at 3045 5th Street Highway in Reading, PA. This donation center is open Tuesdays – Saturdays, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, and we’ll have a team there to help unload your vehicle and approve your donation.

You can also request a receipt for tax purposes.

If you have smaller items for donation – apparel, texts, films – secure them in a grocery-sized bag and deposit them in one of our donation bins in the county. We have 14 of them located throughout the county.
