Thrift Store Donations Mohnton, PA

Donations to, and purchases from, the OppShop thrift store benefit the homeless population of Mohnton, PA, and the surrounding area. The proceeds of the operation go toward the mission of Opportunity House.

Thrift Store Donations Mohnton, PAOpportunity House is an emergency shelter that houses the homeless and provides supportive services to help them overcome the challenges and causes of homelessness that can include addictions, mental health issues, generational poverty, educational deficits, health problems, and other obstacles to housing.

Founded in 1984, Opportunity House has been established in the community. We serve over 500 residents annually, providing emergency shelter, three meals and a snack daily, access to shower and laundry facilities, essentials for daily living, case management, and supportive services.

The Second Street Learning Center offers early childhood education. Children aged six weeks to 13 can participate in these programs so parents can work or attend classes themselves. This early exposure to education aids in overcoming generational poverty in the long term, and in the short term, parents can earn an income when they previously could not.

Opportunity Houses’ Reuse/Recycle program functions through OppShop and our warehouse. We accept gently used items for resale in the OppShop thrift store in Reading. Things that don’t sell in the thrift store are recycled through the warehouse. We recycle about 700,000 pounds of merchandise via partnerships with professional recycling companies.

OppShop benefits Opportunity House’s ongoing mission, but the thrift store’s work doesn’t end there. It also promotes green and frugal living.

Donations to OppShop prevent goods from winding up in landfills when they don’t have to. Furthermore, whenever someone chooses to use secondhand items instead of buying new ones, they avoid the expenditure of resources required to create new products.

Frugal shoppers save money on things they need when they shop at OppShop. Thrift store shopping can also be a fun experience for bargain hunters. Our low-priced, gently used items can save community members money that can be redirected toward other budget items.

All of the good that OppShop does begins with donations to the thrift store from the good people of Mohnton, PA, and the surrounding area. We give your used goods a new life, help the environment, extend your budget power, and promote the mission of Opportunity House homeless shelter.
