Rediscovered Hope

With her life in chaos, Tammica, a mother of three, didn’t know where to turn for help. But with your generous support, she’s built a stable home for herself and her children – and has rediscovered hope.

I was in a bad relationship, and it was 10 years of craziness. Some problems I brought on myself, but I didn’t want my kids to suffer for them. I did what was best for them and left. But I lost everything, including our home. I’d heard of Opportunity House, so I decided to give it a try. My children and I moved into the women’s dorm. I continued with the part-time jobs I had, while my kids attended the Learning Center. Soon after we moved into the shelter, I applied for a full-time job in the warehouse, and got it. Soon after that, my kids and I moved into one of Opportunity House’s transitional housing units.

Life has had its ups and downs, but on the whole, it’s good. I have a decent job and have kept it for three years. My kids are doing well—they’re honor roll students. And I’ve learned that there are better things out there for me and my children if I keep focused and do what I need to do. My goal is to save my money and move my kids into our own place – a place we can call home. Until that day, I follow the advice I give everyone else: Never give up. Keep on pushing.
