Opportunity House announced the appointment of Alyssa Bushkie as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Bushkie transitions into this leadership role following a highly impactful tenure as Chief Operating Officer (COO), where she demonstrated strong strategic vision, operational leadership, and a deep commitment to the mission of Opportunity House.
During her time as COO, Bushkie led several key initiatives that enhanced the organization’s infrastructure, programming, and community presence. Her accomplishments include:
- The renovation of the men’s and women’s dorms, shelter day room, and kitchen creating a more efficient, functional, and comfortable environment for shelter residents.
- The renovation of Beacon House, updating 13 permanent housing apartments with new kitchens, bathrooms and a fresh coat of paint;

- Successfully guiding the recertification of the Keystone STARS 4 accreditation at Second Street Learning Center, ensuring continued excellence in early learning and care;
- The addition of a third PreK Counts classroom to accommodate an additional 20 students.
- Overseeing the operation of the Eckert House Code Blue Shelter, providing critical seasonal shelter during winter months.
- Leading the planning and development of the Patton Avenue Learning Center in the Oakbrook community, which expands access to early childhood education in an underserved neighborhood.
- The award of Berks County’s first TH/RRH project, funded by HUD, that will begin this fall.
Bushkie’s leadership has positioned Opportunity House for long-term growth and responsiveness to address the evolving community needs. Her promotion to CEO signals continuity and forward-thinking stewardship for the organization.

As CEO, Bushkie will focus on advancing several major priorities, including expanding permanent housing and expanding childcare services at Oakbrook. She plans to strengthen collaboration with local and regional stakeholders to build innovative, comprehensive strategies to address homelessness and housing insecurity throughout Berks County and beyond.
