Tatiana Cardona named Director of The Second Street Learning Center

Tatiana Cardona has been named Director of The Second Street Learning Center at Opportunity House according to Modesto Fiume, President of Opportunity House.

Tatiana started her career at Second Street Learning Center in 2007 as a part time teacher assistant and eventually advanced to the role of head teacher. Since 2020, she has been the assistant director of The Second Street Learning Center.

Born in the United States, Tatiana returned to Pereira, Colombia, as an infant.  She stayed there until she completed high school.  Then Tatiana came to the United States and enrolled at Reading Area Community College (RACC), Reading, Pennsylvania. She began ESL (English as a Second Language Classes). She continued her studies enrolling in the Addiction Studies program at RACC.  She graduated in 2014 with an Associate degree in Addiction Studies with a minor in Psychology.

She continued her education and enrolled in classes at Alvernia University, Reading, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Health. During the same period, she was enrolled at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she studied Early Childhood Education.

In this role role, Tatiana Cardona is responsible for the overall operation of The Second Street Learning Center including staff and children. “I enjoy being involved with the staff and seeing them learn new skills, grow and advance as I have, “noted Tatiana.

“Tatiana is a great example of how we promote from within at Opportunity House, said Modesto Fiume, President Opportunity House. “We encourage our employees to continue their education and learn new skills.  Employees can advance their careers here and that provides stability and safety and security for both students and parents of the Second Street Learning Center.

The Second Street Learning Center is a Keystone 4 Star Learning Center.  To maintain this exclusive recognition, staff must complete 14 hours of training.  Additionally, staff complete 12 hours of training each year by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Few facilities undergo this rigorous training, but Second Street Learning Center Director, Tatiana Cardona feels it is worthwhile for both students and parents.  “We provide a safe place for children.  This gives parents peace of mind while they work to provide a better future for their children.”

The Second Street Learning Center provides comprehensive programs including  care for infants, toddlers, preschool, PreK Counts and school age children.  The Second Street Learning Center accepts students from outside the Reading School District.
