Thrift Store Drop Off Donation Center Reading, PA

The OppShop thrift store drop-off donation center, situated behind the store in Reading, PA, gladly accepts the gift of secondhand clothing and household goods. We resell these items at our thrift store to promote the work of Opportunity House, the area’s leading shelter for the homeless.

Thrift Store Drop Off Donation Center Reading, PAIn 1984, Opportunity House opened as a safe harbor for people experiencing homelessness in Berks County, and this legacy continues to this day. The emergency shelter provides protection from the weather, a place to rest, three meals and a snack daily, access to laundry and shower facilities, and supportive services managed and targeted by a case worker dedicated to the individual client.

The case management that we provide connects residents to the assistance that they need, examples of which may include:

  • Mental health care
  • Medical treatment
  • Substance and alcohol treatment
  • Child care
  • Academic support
  • Job and life skills training
  • More

We even provide transitional and permanent housing units as residents work to secure and maintain stable housing.

Offshoots of Opportunity House include:

  • Second Street Learning Center – a Keystone 4-Star Learning Center that accepts kids ranging from 6 weeks to 13 years old;
  • OppShop thrift store – retail thrift store that resells gently used and donated items for the benefit of the shelter’s work;
  • Opportunity House’s community garden

Direct Your Donations to OppShop

Why should you donate your household items to OppShop instead of another thrift store?

When you bring merchandise for resale at OppShop, you’re directly assisting the mission of Opportunity House. We also make the inventory accessible to residents. Providing them with this access allows us to see to their needs and will enable them to have ownership over their attire.

Allow us to provide you with a few more reasons to bring us your donations.

Reuse Merchandise Whenever Possible

In a world of overconsumption, goods are too quickly thrown away when they could be used. Bring the clothes, dishes, books, media, and other items that are still in good shape, but you no longer need, to OppShop.

Provide Treasures for the Bargain Hunters in the Community

Bringing your items to OppShop for resale allows your community shoppers to find deals on the things they need. During difficult times, having access to essentials at a low price can help extend limited budgets.

Live More Eco-Friendly

Throwing away fewer items has a positive effect on the environment, but when they must be disposed of, recycling measures should always be considered. We sell goods that can be used, and when they don’t sell, we work with recycling partners all over the nation and recycle better than 700,000 lbs. of goods each year.
