Save some money and help the less fortunate by shopping at OppShop, a thrift store with a purpose near Wyomissing, PA. As an extension of Opportunity House in Reading, PA, the sales proceeds from OppShop go toward the organization’s mission to help the homeless in Berks County.
Opportunity House provides the homeless refuge from the elements and provides empowering services designed to give the vulnerable a boost. Since 1984, we have provided emergency shelter for our community’s most vulnerable. Our shelter provides services for families, men, women, and children 24/7 and 365 days a year.
We provide permanent housing and early childhood education services to help families remain stably housed. These services give the helping-hand clients need to regain and maintain their independence.
To fund our various services, we seek funding from public and private resources and rely upon generous donations and proceeds from fundraising events and revenue from the OppShop.
Why Shop the OppShop
Reason #1 – Save Money
If inflation has your budget overwhelmed and underperforming, you’re likely searching for ways to stretch it a bit further. OppShoppers can save money on household goods, clothing, shoes, and other essentials.
Reason #2 – Help the Environment
Thrift store purchases save clothing and other items from landfills and are one of the easiest ways to recycle. Buying secondhand reduces your carbon footprint and helps you do your part to reduce greenhouse gasses and preserve the water wasted on manufacturing new clothes.
Reason #3 – Find Gems
A thrift store shopping trip is like a treasure hunt. Expensive designer pieces from past seasons, gently used furniture, and items with great do-it-yourself potential await your searching skills.
Reason #4 – Short-Term Wear
Why invest in expensive clothing that will only be worn a few times? When your children are small and growing out of their clothes every few months, when you have a costume to create or a themed party to attend, or when you need one piece to complete an outfit, shop with OppShop!
Reason #5 – Help the Community
OppShop’s ultimate goal is to fund the good works of Opportunity House. When you shop with us, you assist us with those efforts. You play a role in housing, feeding, and supporting the homeless on their journey back to self-reliance.
