About Opportunity House

Founded in1984, Opportunity House has evolved to meet the needs of the community. Today, we provide e and permanent housing, early childhood education via the Second Street Learning Center, reuse/recycle program, retail thrift store, OppShop, and so much more. When community members are in need, we strive to find a way to help overcome life’s challenges.

The Call to Help

Do you feel compelled to help your neighbors in need? Clients at Opportunity House, will gratefully accept donations of your money, or time. As you can imagine, we can do more with more.

Emergency Needs

The homeless population’s most urgent needs are also some of the most basic. Opportunity House provides emergency shelter for over 500 single women or men, families with children, and V each year. In addition to providing a safe place of refuge against the elements and dangers of living in unsafe places, we also offer individual and group counseling. Our ongoing support continued when clients secure permanent housing and begin to rebuild their lives.

Items we need all year long include all of the following:

Undershirts, underwear, and socks for men and women.
Toiletries, such as shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hairbrushes and combs, soap, lotions, nail clippers, washcloths, feminine hygiene products and bladder control products.
Laundry detergent
Cold weather clothing (coats, caps, gloves, long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, yoga pants, winter boots )
Baby essentials, including diapers and wipes, baby food, formula, bottles.
Bottled water is vital during the warm summer months as clients walk to appointments and work.

OppShop Donations

The OppShop supports the programs and services of Opportunity House. This retail thrift store raises money for programs and services we provide for homeless individuals. Budget-minded shoppers in the area will find clothing, jeans, shoes, home furnishings, books, DVDs and holiday decor in the area. The reuse/recycle program ensures that anything that is not sold in is recycled thus reducing the impact on our environment in the area. Proceeds from our recycling efforts support the programs at Opportunity House. We have donation bins spread across the area. Golf Outing – Held at the Berkshire Country Club, this fundraiser offers golf enthusiasts and others an opportunity to enjoy a day on the links.
Providing a Meal – Our emergency shelter provides three meals a day, every day of the year. Your group, church, club, workplace or family can provide a meal to the men, women and children living at the shelter..
Community Garden & Garden Party Event – Our annual open-to-the-public dinner celebrates our community garden harvest. and the clients and neighbors who participate in its care.
Client Welcome Kits – When clients arrive at Opportunity House, they need essentials, and we can always use help putting kits together. This opportunity can cater to your schedule.
